Guiding Principles
At Mimi School we believe children learn best when:
- the school culture reflects and celebrates the cultural traditions, histories and the tikanga of our tangata whenua, Ngati Mutunga, Ngati Tama, and our local people in a way that celebrates their contribution to our cultural heritage and future;
- they are valued as individual ‘whole people’ and enjoy great relationships with their teachers and classmates;
- they feel individually challenged through high expectations and are given opportunity to demonstrate their talents;
- success is celebrated for all students, wherever it is found;
- they see real purpose to their activities;
- they are encouraged to ask questions and reflect on their achievement;
- shared understandings of success are held by our learning community that allow children to enjoy support from the home, the school, and the wider learning community;
- they are given the opportunities to explore, are encouraged to take responsible risks, adopt a ‘can do’ attitude and participate in all activities to the best of their abilities.
